What promised to be a fun weekend at Miramar Beach, Tamaulipas, ended in a bitter experience for Carlos Segura Rodríguez, originally from Miquihuana, who was abandoned by his friends after a night of drinking.
According to Carlos, he traveled with several friends with the intention of spending a few quiet days at the beach, but in the midst of the gathering, his companions decided to go get more beer.
Despite waiting for hours for his friends to return, they never came back. They took the car with them and left it stranded since last Saturday.
With no money and no way to return, Carlos had to spend several nights at the Tampico bus station, where he took shelter and devised a plan to return home.
So last Monday, he went to the Municipal Palace seeking help to find a way to return to his hometown. So far, he hasn’t heard from his friends.
The man was unable to appear before the authorities because the Easter holidays meant most government institutions were closed.

His story moved several council members, who raised funds to buy him a ticket to Ciudad Victoria, from where he could continue his journey home.
“With friends like that, why would I need enemies?” said Don Carlos, with a touch of humor, but also with the bitter lesson that not all friends can be trusted.
