The municipality of Querétaro is the sixth largest generator of jobs per capita in the country, said Alejandro Sterling Sánchez, Secretary of Economic Development for the Municipality of Querétaro, who noted that 5,478 new jobs were created in the capital in the first quarter of the year.

In an interview with Diario de Querétaro, the official highlighted that, in the first quarter of this year, 798 businesses opened, mainly in commerce and services, which represents a 23% increase in new businesses compared to the same period in 2024.

“We could say that in the first quarter, the capital had 23% more openings, with a total of 798 compared to 2024. Now, we say, very good openings, but how does this represent the investment? I am very pleased to share with you that these 798 openings represent 727 million 812 thousand pesos, which is 100% more investment than compared to the first quarter of the previous year,” he mentioned.

Querétaro, ninth with the highest job growth

According to the data, the state saw a 1.7% increase in formal jobs in December.
He reiterated that the new businesses have generated 5,478 jobs, placing the state among the top 10 in per capita job creation, and emphasized that the new jobs represent an investment of 727 million 812 thousand pesos.

“So far, we have generated 5,478 new jobs, which places us as the sixth-largest generator of per capita employment in the country. We’re talking about Querétaro being one of the six places that generate the most per capita employment nationwide,” he added.

He also highlighted that the daily wage, according to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), is 691 pesos, 12% above the national average.

“To clarify, this is information from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). We’re not saying everyone earns that much. The average salary in our city is 12% higher, from the highest earner to the lowest. This is a statistic. We know there are cases that need to be addressed, but statistically and economically speaking, Querétaro City has a salary 12% above the national average, which is around 20,000 pesos per month,” he added.

Wages grow 7.7%

Querétaro was among the states with the highest growth.
Sterling Sánchez also highlighted that there have been 23% fewer business losses compared to the previous year and emphasized that more than 17,600 registration plates have been renewed, which represents a 9% increase compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

“We’re seeing positive balances in renewals, very positive balances in openings, and a huge balance in attracting investment, with 727 million 812 thousand pesos up 100% compared to the previous year. Compared to the decreases, we’re seeing a positive balance of 23%,” he stated.

He indicated that the decrease in businesses is due to unprofitability, change of address, age, and change of ownership, and clarified that none of the closures are due to economic conditions.
