Mangoes for $80 and braids for $600: Puerto Vallarta beach prices criticized

Social media users have sparked controversy after the TikTok profile “Amo Puerto Vallarta” posted a video highlighting the high prices some street vendors charge on the tourist destination’s beaches.

The video, which is already circulating widely, mentions examples such as a donut for 60 pesos, a mango for 80 pesos, and a braided hairstyle for 600 pesos, sparking a wave of divided reactions among internet users.

The post suggests that some vendors assume tourists “earn dollars,” thus justifying the high prices.

However, there are mixed opinions in the comments: while some users consider the prices excessive, others believe that “travelers should be financially prepared,” and some even defend the vendors’ right to set their prices.

“Repeat after me if I don’t have money to go on vacation, I won’t leave my house 😂” “Yes, yes, yes, we know that if you go on vacation, you’re going to spend, but the (street vendors) are also abusive and charge you even for sitting on the sand 🤔”; “fortunately, spending is optional 👌”; “Having money doesn’t mean you’re going to let yourself be scammed. For example, you get 1 for $40 or 3 for $100 everywhere, and here it says one for $150. You don’t have to be abusive,” the comments read.
