In the last 24 hours, the city of Cabo San Lucas, in Baja California Sur, has reported attacks on public transportation vehicles, forcing companies to suspend service until they can provide safe conditions for their staff and passengers.

The first case was reported near Plaza La Sanluqueña at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, when unidentified individuals attacked a vehicle, allegedly with homemade explosives. Once the fire started, the driver and passengers immediately got off the bus.

The Los Cabos City Council reported a second fire involving a public transportation vehicle at 8:45 a.m. this Thursday, April 24, on Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard; a third case was reported at 2:00 p.m. in the tourist corridor near Walmart.

It is worth mentioning that, to date, authorities from the Security Board have not provided further information about the attacks. It has only been reported that the passengers traveling on the buses were not injured.

However, the situation has had a direct impact on the public, who have suffered the cancellation of transportation services provided by various companies in Cabo San Lucas.

Ruta del Desierto explained that they have been forced to suspend service starting at 6:00 p.m. today from San José del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas, and starting at 8:00 p.m. from Cabo San Lucas to San José del Cabo.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience this causes, but our priority is to provide the necessary safety conditions for our users and our employees,” the transportation company stated.

Cabo Baja Plus also reported that, due to recent events, they must prioritize the safety of their staff as well as their passengers.

“Autotransporte Cabo Baja will temporarily suspend public transportation service in Los Cabos until further notice. This decision was made based on our commitment to the safety and well-being of all. We will resume operations as soon as the appropriate conditions exist to provide a safe and reliable service,” they reported.

So far, the Los Cabos City Council has not specified how many units are out of service due to the events of the last 24 hours.
