The governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal Anaya, held a working meeting with the head of the Railway Transportation Regulatory Agency, Andrés Lajous Loaeza, in which they reviewed potential rail routes that will soon be built in the state as part of the federal government’s infrastructure plan.

Both officials agreed that strengthening the rail network will be key to boosting international trade and improving transportation services within the state.

The project is part of a national infrastructure strategy promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who has directed the expansion and modernization of the rail network throughout the country.

The first stage of this plan includes the Saltillo–Monterrey–Nuevo Laredo route, which seeks to strengthen one of the most important logistics corridors in the north of the country.

During his participation in the morning press conference from the National Palace, Andrés Lajous explained on April 2 that the first phase is being worked on with an interdisciplinary team comprised of various sectors.

“This year we are beginning the first phase, which has four sections: Mexico City-Pachuca, Mexico City-Querétaro, Querétaro-Irapuato, and Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo. To this end, we are working with an interdisciplinary team comprised of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, the Ministry of Defense, Sedatu, Semarnat, Welfare, Conagua, Conanp, INAH, and INPI, as well as state and municipal governments,” explained Andrés Lajous.

Regarding the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo section, he emphasized that “pre-investment studies are being conducted” to continue with “demand surveys and interviews in the areas of influence, as well as environmental studies.”

“Both studies are in progress, as are the technical studies for definition, layout, station location, and completion of topography and LiDAR,” Lajous added.
