National tourism and the region’s economy are proving the benefits of the new Jala-Puerto Vallarta highway, built by the Mexican government, which saves two and a half hours on the journey between the cities of Guadalajara and Bahía de Banderas.

Developed by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), headed by Jesús Esteva Medina, the project created approximately 2,000 jobs and involved an investment of 2.024 billion pesos.

This new 173-km roadway also includes 21 structures: eight bridges; 13 vehicle crossings; an interchange and a toll booth, as well as a five-kilometer branch to Puerto Vallarta International Airport.

With the completion of the third and final section, the 33.2-kilometer Bucerías-Puerto Vallarta highway, inaugurated last December by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the highway has begun to demonstrate its benefits for users.

The work to complete this highway project took two years and involved nearly 2,000 people.

The effort involved the construction of 21 structures, including eight bridges measuring 6 and 15 meters high and up to 300 meters long; 13 vehicular crossings measuring between 5 and 6 meters high and up to 40 meters long; an interchange and a toll booth, as well as a 5-kilometer branch line to the Puerto Vallarta International Airport.

This required nearly 3 million cubic meters of excavation, with the excavation of 2.6 million cubic meters of fill embankment; 353 beams for the construction of the bridges; 2,600 tons of steel; 40,000 cubic meters of hydraulic concrete; and 192,000 cubic meters of asphalt mix.

It’s worth remembering that during President López Obrador’s previous administration, the Compostela to Las Varas and Las Varas to Bucerías sections were already inaugurated.

The SICT (Spanish Confederation of Transport and Transportation) continues with the construction of the Tepic-Compostela highway, which is part of this major project.
