A potentially dangerous incident occurred early this morning on the Holcá-Kantunil highway, between Tibolón and Holcá, when a large dead jabín tree unexpectedly fell onto the road. The collapse startled a pair of foreign travelers driving toward Mérida, though fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The travelers, who were returning to the Yucatán capital after exploring the southern regions of the state, were caught off guard as the massive tree came crashing down on their blue vehicle just before entering the town of Holcá. The tree, which had reportedly been struck by lightning years ago, had withered over time and finally gave way at an unfortunate moment.
Spanning nearly two lanes, the fallen tree caused significant traffic disruptions, with vehicles halted for several hours. Crews worked tirelessly to remove the debris and restore normal traffic flow.
Authorities have not reported any damage beyond the shaken travelers’ vehicle. The incident underscores the importance of monitoring roadside trees in order to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
