As part of Mexico’s international promotion in the United States and as part of the 2025 Tourism Fair, Secretary of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora inaugurated the San Diego Festival of Mexico, “Window to Mexico,” an event that seeks to highlight the country’s natural, artistic, cultural, artisanal, and culinary heritage.
Accompanied by the Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the head of the Mexican Ministry of Tourism kicked off the event, which takes place on April 26 and 27 at Liberty Station in San Diego. This free festival will showcase the best of Mexican traditions with the participation of 28 states, including Sinaloa, which will be present with its outstanding artisanal products and diverse tourist offerings.
Mireya Sosa Osuna, state Secretary of Tourism, stated that “Window to Mexico” represents a great opportunity for Sinaloa to showcase everything it has to offer in the U.S. market. “We are very happy to be at ‘Ventana México’ in San Diego. It is the first time a Binational Tianguis (Tianguis Binacional) has been held between the United States and Mexico. This time we are in San Diego, and on Monday we will be present at the inauguration of the Tourist Tianguis. Mexico is felt in the United States and in San Diego, which is a sister city for the people of Sinaloa. We welcome many tourists from California, who represent a very important market for Sinaloa and Mazatlán,” said Sosa Osuna.
The state of Sinaloa is present at ‘Ventana México’ through Mazatlán, Los Mochis, as the gateway to the Copper Canyon, and the five Magical Towns: El Fuerte, Cosalá, Mocorito, San Ignacio, and Rosario. The secretary also highlighted the air connectivity with Tijuana and California, which facilitates access to Sinaloa for tourists from the region.
Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that the event is not only a platform to showcase the best of Mexico, but also to strengthen tourism, trade, and cultural relations with the United States. “Sinaloa, with its unique cuisine and folk art, plays a crucial role in this showcase of the best of Mexico,” he mentioned.
The festival features 18 traditional cooks and 25 artisans who will share their ancestral products and techniques, in addition to exhibiting typical Mexican dance. The exhibition invites both American and Mexican tourists to rediscover their roots and celebrate Mexican identity.
“This festival is an opportunity to reaffirm Mexico’s commitment to promoting its cultural and tourism riches,” Rodríguez Zamora emphasized. He also thanked the Mexican Consul General in San Diego, Alicia Kerber-Palma, for making this initiative possible, which also seeks to encourage tourism to various Mexican tourist destinations.
During the inauguration, the Secretary of Tourism was accompanied by various authorities, including the Undersecretary of Tourism, Sebastián Ramírez Mendoza, and the mayors of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, and Playas de Rosarito, Rocío Adame Muñoz, who also participated in a tour of the Baja California Center, where the 2025 Tourism Fair will be held.
