Residents of the Ampliación Los Ángeles, Eugenio Aguirre Benavides, and Moderna neighborhoods, and much of the downtown area of Torreón, have been without drinking water for several days.

That’s why they gathered at 1:00 p.m. this Sunday at the Plaza del Eco to express their dissatisfaction and demand that authorities restore service immediately.

“It started failing Tuesday night; it came out a little, but it came out. By Wednesday, it was gone in some areas, and by Thursday, it was completely gone.”

“We’ve already filed several reports with SIMAS, and we all have the necessary information. In Eugenio Aguirre Benavides, we had to take to the streets; they were blocked, so we’re desperate.”

Among the temporary solutions, several water trucks arrived; however, some people were charged from 100 to 1,000 pesos.

“And we took a photo of the SIMAS truck that charged for it. They asked me for 600 pesos.”

“On some blocks of Benavides Street, some leaders made service conditions, offering it to some and not to others.”

Personnel from the Municipal Water and Sanitation System (SIMAS) promised that the service would be ready by 8:00 p.m. on April 27.

“If they don’t comply, tomorrow we will demonstrate at SIMAS, here at Independencia, and we will close the streets.”
