The picturesque town of Xilitla in San Luis Potosí has been recognized as the best destination for a family getaway in Mexico at the esteemed “Best of Mexico” awards. Organized by México Desconocido magazine, the annual event honors the country’s most captivating tourist spots.
During the 2025 Tijuana Tourist Fair, Xilitla was crowned the “Best Magical Town for a Family Getaway,” beating out strong contenders such as Cozumel in Quintana Roo and Compostela in Nayarit. The award is a testament to the town’s unique blend of history, art, nature, and hospitality that has captivated voters.
The voting process, which took place between March 10 and April 20 through the contest’s official platform, acknowledged Xilitla’s exceptional offerings, including:

* Leonora Carrington Museum: A tribute to the life and work of the renowned artist

At the awards ceremony, Yolanda Josefina Cepeda Echavarría, head of the State Tourism Secretariat (SECTUR), and Óscar Márquez, mayor of Xilitla, accepted the trophy on behalf of Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona. The governor has been instrumental in promoting San Luis Potosí’s tourism sector.
