Hotel giant IHG Hotels & Resorts is accelerating its expansion plans in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean, with a focus on luxury and lifestyle properties.
According to recent announcements, IHG has already opened five new hotels in 2024, with a further 32 properties currently in development across the region. This rapid growth is expected to more than double IHG’s presence in the luxury and lifestyle segment within the next few years.
A significant portion of these new openings will feature branded residences, including an upcoming joint Kimpton hotel and residence project in Tulum, Mexico. The project promises to offer guests a unique blend of boutique luxury hospitality and exclusive residential experiences.
“We are thrilled with our solid growth across Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean,” said Jolyon Bulley, Chief Executive Officer for IHG Americas. “With nearly 100 new properties set to join our regional portfolio in the coming years, we are confident that our brands continue to offer something unique and compelling to owners and guests alike.”
IHG’s expansion plans have already borne fruit, with several notable openings this year. These include:
– InterContinental Presidente Monterrey: This luxury hotel, located in San Pedro Garza Garcia neighborhood, offers stunning views of the Sierra Madre de Chipinque mountains and features 300 guestrooms.
– SOUMA Hotel Lima, Vignette Collection: As the first South American Vignette Collection property, this minimalist design-driven hotel boasts three signature restaurants, a rooftop infinity pool, and the Bambu Spa. Located in Lima’s Miraflores neighborhood, it offers an unparalleled urban experience.
– Voco Hermosillo: Following an extensive renovation, this 138-room hotel has reopened on Kino Boulevard, offering easy access to major corporate offices and city attractions such as the Cathedral of Hermosillo and La Ruina Park.
– Avid hotel Queretaro Centro Sur: As IHG’s fifth Mexico property and first in the state of Queretaro, this budget-friendly option provides proximity to key cultural outlets and destinations.
– Kimpton Monterrey (Scheduled for 2026): Set to become a flagship boutique luxury hotel and branded residences development in Mexico’s second-largest economic market, Kimpton Monterrey will boast panoramic city views, signature inspired bars and restaurants, and a full-service restaurant and lobby lounge.
These openings represent just the beginning of IHG’s ambitious expansion plans for the region. With nearly 100 new properties set to join its portfolio within the next few years, IHG is confident that its luxury and lifestyle brands will continue to resonate with owners and guests alike.
