Flooding in Guadalajara! The 23 tunnels and avenues most at risk of flooding this rainy season

The rains are approaching again in Jalisco with the arrival of hurricane season this coming May 15th. As the people of Guadalajara know, specific areas of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area are becoming at-risk due to flooding.

In response, the Department of Geography at the University of Guadalajara and the Jalisco State Civil Protection and Fire Department have used a Geo-Risk Map to identify the areas with a high risk of flooding, most of which are tunnels and overpasses.

Flooding in Guadalajara: What are the areas at greatest risk in the Metropolitan Area?

According to the Geo-Risk Map, the avenues with the highest risk of flooding are Mariano Otero Avenue, near the Ciudad del Sol neighborhood, Balcones de Oblatos, Gobernador L. Curiel, and Guadalajara’s Historic Center.

Additionally, locations such as Miramar, the Old Tesistán Road, and Aviación Avenue were also identified as having a high risk of flooding.

Finally, 23 tunnels and overpasses in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area are considered high risk due to the fact that water levels can reach heights of up to six meters during the rainy season.
