Approximately 15,000 teachers from Section 22 of the CNTE marched this Thursday in commemoration of Labor Day, after which they delivered the state’s 69-point petition. Various unions, such as the Bureaucrats and Health unions, also did the same, criticizing the performance of Governor Salomón Jara Cruz.
The teachers marched from the intersection of the Viguera municipal agency to the city’s main square. Organization Secretary César García Zurita indicated that the indefinite work stoppage is already a reality, as the rank and file have determined, for May 15.
However, he added that the State Assembly in the coming days will define the plan of activities for the state and Mexico City, as it will determine what percentage of the membership, which exceeds 80,000 members, will participate at each site.
He added that they await an initial response from the state government between May 10 and 15. The list of demands consists of a total of 69 points, divided into five core demands: 10 political; four related to educational improvement and infrastructure; two related to education; four related to justice; 13 administrative; 17 economic; nine related to social security; and five related to social issues.
Meanwhile, bureaucrats marched through various streets of Oaxaca City to the Zócalo. Workers fired in December expressed their dissatisfaction with Governor Salomón Jara Cruz. To the chant “Recall, recall,” they placed a coffin with a photograph of the governor and the caption “Democracy died here.”
Meanwhile, workers from the National Union of Dismissed Workers of the Ministry of Health (SNTSA) denounced the lack of medicines, supplies, medical equipment, and personnel in the state’s various health institutions. They also criticized the state government for investing more than 4 million in the Los Ángeles Azules concert instead of supporting the health sector.
