In Nuevo León, an increase in the number of homicides was reported for the second consecutive month.
After falling to 58 in February of this year, it rose to 73 in March and then to 93 in the month that just concluded, according to a report by State Security Secretary Gerardo Escamilla.
Despite the increase, he explained that, compared to last year, there were fewer homicides. In April 2024, 127 homicides were reported, compared to 93 this year, representing a 33 percent decrease.
Although score-settling and drug trafficking continue to be the main reasons for the murders, the head of the Civil Force indicated that there were social conflicts in April, which he said are common during this time of year.
In the monthly report, the agency announced that 369 people were arrested for various crimes, including 42 priority targets who are being investigated for committing homicides or being leaders of criminal groups.
In addition, 64 firearms and 107 vehicles were seized in searches or were found to have been used in crimes.
