Following the reforms approved in Tlaxcala, the Puebla Congress could also legislate to restrict the operation of black market businesses in the state, with the goal of preventing human trafficking or links to organized crime.

The president of the Governing and Political Coordination Board, Laura Artemisa García Chávez, reported that the bill is on the priority agenda for the regular session that begins on May 15.

In an interview, she announced that in the coming days she will hold a meeting with Jorge Caballero Román, local representative and coordinator of the Morena party in the Tlaxcala Congress.

This is intended to gain a thorough understanding of the reforms approved by the neighboring state to punish owners of black market businesses who engage in criminal acts with imprisonment.

Among the amendments to the legal framework is a ban on nude or semi-nude women performing in so-called “table dances,” as these practices could be linked to human trafficking.

In this regard, the Puebla legislator indicated that they will study the scope and repercussions the initiative could have in Puebla, given the proximity between the two states.

“There is the issue of black market transfers that was introduced in Tlaxcala. We are meeting with the Morena coordinating deputy to review the law and see how much it impacts us,” she commented.
