Federal and local authorities carried out a massive operation against auto parts theft in municipalities of Mexico City and the State of Mexico.

The State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office (FGJEM) reported that, as part of Operation Fortaleza, 80 search and seizure investigations were carried out simultaneously in two municipalities in Mexico City and 17 municipalities in the State of Mexico.

“Auto parts whose legitimate origin has not been proven, vehicles with altered identification, and commercial establishments have been seized, as well as individuals arrested for their probable involvement in various criminal acts,” stated the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office.

According to the local Public Prosecutor’s Office, the operations have been carried out in the Iztapalapa and Cuauhtémoc municipalities of Mexico City.

In the State of Mexico, operations were carried out in the municipalities of Almoloya de Juárez, Atenco, Chapa de Mota, Coyotepec, Ecatepec, Lerma, Naucalpan, Nezahualcóyotl, Nicolás Romero, Tecámac, Texcoco, Tezoyuca, Tlalnepantla, Toluca, Tultitlán, Valle de Chalco, and Zumpango.

Members of the operation included members of several federal and state agencies, including members of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Ministry of the Navy (SEMAR), the National Guard (GN), the Ministry of National Defense (Defense), and municipal agencies from the State of Mexico.

This operation follows the one carried out at the end of March, where more than 15 tons of stolen auto parts were seized in the Cuauhtémoc municipality.

The search was carried out at a building located on Renacimiento Street in the Buenos Aires neighborhood. The search was carried out by members of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), in collaboration with the capital’s Attorney General’s Office, the Defense Ministry, the Mexican Navy, and the National Guard.

According to authorities, the operation was the result of an investigation initiated on March 24, 2025, following the theft of auto parts from a vehicle parked at the University City facilities.

Field work, as well as fixed and mobile surveillance conducted by agents, led to the identification of the building that was serving as a warehouse for stolen parts. With this information, a Public Ministry agent presented the evidence to a Control Judge, who issued the search warrant.

During the operation, authorities seized a total of 15 tons of auto parts, although no arrests were reported.

Among the seized parts were vehicle components that, according to investigations, could be linked to an auto parts theft and distribution network in the capital.

In March, authorities seized a total of 100 tons of stolen parts in various operations.
