The Guelaguetza is the largest festival that, year after year, takes place at the end of July and attracts thousands of tourists to the state, especially to the capital of Oaxaca.
For the next edition, which will take place on July 21 and 28, Oaxaca’s Secretary of Tourism, Saymi Pineda Velasco, indicated that there are already new routes to reach the state by air or land, which she hopes will surpass last year’s economic impact, which amounted to more than 525 million pesos.
In an interview with Ejecentral, she explained that there are collaboration agreements with Viva and TAG Airlines to transport visitors to this tourist destination, as well as to beaches like Puerto Escondido and Huatulco.
“In 2024, we had an impact of more than 525 million pesos. We are hoping that with these benefits (new roads and routes), we will increase the economic impact, hotel occupancy, and the number of national and international visitors,” she explained.
She announced that American Airlines is about to launch the Dallas-Puerto Escondido route, starting December 3rd; while by 2026, there will be 8,000 seats available year-round.
She also mentioned the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway, inaugurated this year, as another way to arrive by land. Another recently inaugurated highway is the Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway, which also provides access to Oaxaca.
“People will be more connected; this will help them come and enjoy the more than 100 activities we have planned (before and during the Guelaguetza),” she added.
How much will Guelaguetza tickets cost?
The Ministry of Tourism indicated that Guelaguetza tickets will be available for pre-sale at Banamex starting May 15th, with up to two tickets per person.
The cost per person will be 1,423.30 for Box A and 1,124.61 for Box B.
There will be two opening times: 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The government of Oaxaca concluded its participation in the 49th edition of the Tianguis Turístico 2025 on May 1st, the most important event in the Americas and, for the first time, a binational event.
The Oaxaca Tourism Secretariat indicated that the state promoted its destinations, magical towns, and pieces made by its artisans, such as masks from the Mixteca region, in addition to holding food and mezcal displays.
“Working with 59 tourism service providers, we attended a total of 2,265 business meetings,” it explained.
The state’s Secretary of Tourism, Saymi Pineda Velasco, celebrated the fact that the state capital and Carrizalillo Beach in Puerto Escondido were recognized in the 2025 Best of the Best Travelers’ Choice Awards, hosted by the Tripadvisor platform.
These awards recognize excellence in travel and are given to destinations, hotels, restaurants, and activities favored by travelers around the world, which receive a large number of exceptional reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period.
Regarding Carrizalillo Beach in Puerto Escondido, which appears on the list of the 10 best beaches in Mexico, reviews indicate that it “captivates with its crystal-clear waters and natural beauty. Families will find a quiet place to enjoy a relaxing swim, while foodies can savor delicious local dishes.”
In this regard, the official thanked the service providers who keep it clean and the hoteliers who continue to support this entity.
“These results are the product of synergy and the ongoing efforts of an active sector that is building a better Oaxaca because it loves its roots,” he emphasized, inviting visitors to the state for the remainder of the year.
