This afternoon, nine municipalities in Hidalgo were recognized with the Pueblos con Sabor (Towns with Flavor) distinction, bringing the total number of towns in the state recognized for their gastronomic richness.
During the event, led by Federal Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora and Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar, the official designations were presented to tourism service providers and industry representatives.
In her message, Rodríguez Zamora highlighted the importance of gastronomic tourism as a tool to strengthen the identity and economy of communities.
What are Pueblos con Sabor (Towns with Flavor)?
Pueblos con Sabor (Towns with Flavor) is a program promoted by the government of Hidalgo that recognizes those towns that preserve and promote their traditional cuisine as an essential part of their cultural identity.
The distinction seeks to strengthen gastronomic tourism, foster local economic development, and reinforce a sense of belonging in communities.
What are the distinguished dishes?
Each of the nine recognized municipalities was named after a representative traditional dish that is part of its culinary heritage:
Ajacuba – Dobladitas with green and red sauce
Mineral del Monte – Potato paste
Atotonilco el Grande – Baked fruit
Chapantongo – Rabbit in morita chile sauce
Ixmiquilpan – Quesadillas and quelites gorditas
Molango de Escamilla – Pea, cheese, and tecocos pinto empanadas
Nopala de Villagrán – Cecina with nopales
San Agustín Tlaxiaca – Tlaxiaca-style roasted rabbit
Tula de Allende – Chinicuiles tacos
In addition to the new designations, recognitions were given to tourism entrepreneurs and National Tourism Registries as part of efforts to professionalize the sector in Hidalgo.
