The delegate of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), Rosa Estela Reyes, reported that, in coordination with the municipality of Querétaro, shoring work is being carried out on five mansions in the Historic Center due to the risk they pose to pedestrians.
She explained that these homes are part of a larger group of 86 previously identified properties, many of which have already been acquired and converted into hotels, restaurants, or Airbnb-type accommodations. However, she emphasized that there are still numerous properties in a state of disrepair that require urgent attention.
“I would like a program in which institutions, individuals, and even UNESCO would contribute money to develop a house restoration plan. There are some that are vulnerable because they pose a risk to passersby,” she stated.
In addition, Reyes indicated that the municipality has been asked to consider tax incentives such as property tax discounts for owners who invest in improving their homes, as a measure to encourage the preservation of the Historic Center’s architectural heritage.
