The Ministry of Environment and Territorial Development (SEMADET) activated an Atmospheric Emergency this Saturday in the municipalities of Mazamitla and Valle de Juárez due to a forest fire in the area known as La Llorona. The measure was implemented due to environmental conditions and the presence of smoke in inhabited areas.

The fire has not yet been brought under control.

The fire directly affects the municipal seat of Mazamitla and several nearby communities, including Epenche Grande, Puerto de las Cuevas, Epenche Chico, La Llorona, and Puerta del Zapatero. In Valle de Juárez, the emergency primarily impacts the municipal seat, where the presence of smoke has also been reported.

SEMADET explained that the decision is based on adverse atmospheric conditions and the detection of smoke in the areas surrounding the fire, which represents a risk to the health of residents. Therefore, active monitoring of the fire’s progress and its environmental impact is being maintained.

As part of the recommendations, the environmental authority asked the public to avoid outdoor activities, close doors and windows to minimize exposure to smoke, wear a face mask if necessary, stay informed through official channels, and follow Civil Protection instructions.
