Given the climate of violence that has affected several candidates in the state of Veracruz, Edgar Herrera Lendechy, the National Delegate of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), expressed his concern and announced that the arrival of more than 3,000 security personnel is expected in the coming days, as part of a call to the Federal Government to strengthen security in the state ahead of the June 2 elections.

During his visit yesterday, Tuesday, to the municipality of Ixhuatlancillo, where he accompanied PVEM candidate Fernando Ochoa on a campaign tour, Herrera Lendechy stressed the urgency of ensuring a peaceful election day. “The truth is that we are aware of the situation in the state of Veracruz. There is concern because it is an issue that is already affecting many people. We must guarantee the citizens that we will have peaceful elections on June 1,” he declared.

The PVEM delegate reported that support from federal authorities has already been formally requested, which will result in the deployment of a security contingent to prevent acts of violence during the electoral process. “I believe that more than 3,000 officers will arrive in the coming days to reinforce the situation. This is an issue of political ferment, and we must maintain control,” he stated.

Herrera Lendechy noted that the party is coordinating with electoral and security institutions and is maintaining constant surveillance in areas considered hot spots.

“Any hot spots we detect will be reported immediately to prevent further regrettable situations like those that have already occurred,” he warned.

Regarding the recent clashes between PVEM and Labor Party (PT) members in the municipality of Aquila, the delegate acknowledged that this was an event stemming from political ferment.

“It was a clash between parties. At this stage, it’s essential that campaigns be about peace and proposals, not attacks. Veracruz needs peace, Mexico needs peace, and we as citizens have to contribute to that,” he concluded.

The call for civility and respect among contenders becomes urgent in an electoral process where the safety of candidates and voters is at stake.
