In recent years, Puebla’s highways have become the scene of several robberies targeting music bands, generating growing concern in the artistic community. Groups such as Los Ángeles Azules, Matute, Café Tacvba, and others have been victims of violent robberies while traveling on federal highways, losing equipment and instruments and, in some cases, putting their staff at risk. These incidents not only affect the bands financially, but have also raised the urgent need to improve security on the state’s busiest routes.

Here is a timeline of the most recent cases that have marked the history of these robberies in Puebla.

Timeline of robberies targeting music bands in Puebla

Los Ángeles Azules – May 9, 2025

The Los Ángeles Azules truck was intercepted at kilometer 61 of the Mexico-Puebla highway, near Santa Rita Tlahuapan. The unit was returning from Tabasco without any members on board. The group filed a formal complaint and demanded increased surveillance on federal highways to prevent future robberies.

Sonido Máster – April 23, 2025

The Sonido Master truck was stolen near the Traumatology and Orthopedics Hospital in Puebla while transporting equipment valued at approximately one million pesos. A second vehicle accompanying the convoy was detained, and its occupants were detained, but released hours later in the San José Los Cerritos neighborhood.

Moderatto – April 29, 2022

On the Mexico-Puebla highway, near Chalco, the Moderatto truck was stolen while the group was traveling toward their destination. During the robbery, the staff was temporarily kidnapped, but the vehicle was later recovered, although without the musical equipment.

Matute – November 19, 2019

Matute’s truck was robbed on the Amozoc section of the Puebla-Orizaba highway as the band was traveling to a performance. The criminals stole instruments, technical equipment, and computers essential for the show. The staff was held for several hours before being released.

Café Tacvba – May 2, 2019

Café Tacvba’s truck was intercepted on the Puebla-Córdoba highway as the band was heading to Cancún. Two staff members were beaten and deprived of their liberty. The vehicle was later found empty at the Huixcolotla Central de Abastos (Bakery Market). Years later, some of the stolen equipment was identified at Sonido Fania 97 events.

These incidents reflect the growing concern about insecurity on Puebla’s highways, especially on high-traffic corridors like the Mexico-Puebla highway. In addition to losing equipment and affecting their schedules, the gangs are calling for greater efforts from authorities to ensure the safety of those who travel on these roads.
