As part of its efforts to strengthen road safety, the San Cristóbal City Council announced the launch of the “Drive Without Alcohol” program, a breathalyzer operation that will be implemented at various points throughout the city.
The announcement was made during the Fifth Regular Session of the Municipal Public Safety Council, chaired by the municipality’s mayor, Fabiola Ricci Diestel. The operation aims to reduce alcohol-related traffic incidents and promote a culture of prevention.
The proposal was presented by Óscar Domínguez Gutiérrez, who assumed the position of Executive Secretary of the Municipal Safety Council at the same session. He explained that the program is part of a comprehensive strategy coordinated between the three levels of government.
During the session, the appointment of Rigoberto Cárdenas Gamboa as the new Director of the Municipal Police was also made official. Together with César Domínguez Gutiérrez, Director of Traffic, and Antonio de Jesús Villafuerte Ballinas, Crime Prevention Coordinator, the officials presented a report on activities for April and May.
Ricci Diestel emphasized that coordination between agencies helped maintain a clean bill of health during the past Holy Week and the Spring and Peace Fair, which attracted more than 250,000 visitors. He also called on security agencies to redouble their efforts in joint patrols and strengthen communication with the C5, especially given the recent social unrest in the northern and southern areas of the city.
