Direct Flight to Los Angeles to Open from Querétaro

The direct flight between Querétaro and Los Angeles with Volaris will begin in July, and negotiations are underway for another international flight to Panama to connect with South America, said Secretary of Sustainable Development Marco del Prete.

He explained that Volaris will begin operating approximately three times a week for the flight to Los Angeles, United States.

“The flight to Los Angeles is a given; it will begin in July with Volaris. We are working with Copa Airlines on the Panama flight. We are seeking a meeting. We already had another meeting with the director of Copa Airlines, and like all flights, it requires a lot of lobbying,” he indicated.

He specified that they are seeking a connection through Panama because Panama is the hub for connections to South America, so they have presented the business case to Copa Airlines, as there are potential travelers to that destination.

“Today, to fly to South America, you have to travel to Miami, and from Miami, you fly to South America or Panama, and from Panama to South America. So what we want is for flights from Querétaro to be able to fly to Panama, and from Panama to return to South America,” he indicated.

He mentioned that another flight they are working on is to Las Vegas, which would be focused on recreation.

He emphasized that the flight to Madrid was the result of management work that began in January and was realized because the route was attractive to the airline due to the influx of passengers from Querétaro to Spain.

“In the case of Madrid, a study was presented on who buys tickets to Madrid, from Querétaro because of those who go there and return, and who buys from Madrid to Bajío, whether through hotel reservations or other indicators. These are market studies conducted by specialized companies,” he said.

Real Estate Developments

Meanwhile, Del Prete indicated that the Secretariat of Sustainable Development is only responsible for issuing environmental permits for construction, following allegations from individuals who were allegedly defrauded by the Los Encinos and Quercus real estate developments.

“Neither of these two developments has permits from the Secretariat of Sustainable Development; in fact, one already has a procedure before the Environmental Protection Agency, and in that sense, we have acted in accordance with the law,” he said.

Political Intentions

Regarding his political intentions, the Secretary of Sustainable Development emphasized that public servants are working to deliver results for citizens, since there are no electoral campaigns until 2027.

“There are no campaigns; we have to be very punctual. There is an Electoral Law that is very specific, and the campaign will begin in 2027, so talking about campaigns is out of time,” he mentioned.
