A major fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at the Bahía Príncipe hotel complex in Tulum, prompting a swift response from emergency services and resulting in significant material losses.

The blaze started around 4:20 p.m. at kilometer 250 of Federal Highway 307, on the Tulum-Playa del Carmen stretch, after a call was made to the 911 emergency number reporting a fire at the hotel complex. Initial reports suggested that the fire originated in the Kukulcán Buffet restaurant and quickly spread to the Cobá Hotel lobby due to strong gusts of wind.

Resort staff attempted to contain the fire initially but were forced to request assistance from the Heroic Tulum Fire Department as the situation worsened. Firefighters arrived on the scene and faced challenges in extinguishing the blaze due to a lack of water in the on-site hydrants, prompting them to call for backup from water trucks provided by the National Union of Transporters of Change (UNTRAC).

Despite these obstacles, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within an hour. Crews then worked to cool down the affected areas to prevent possible re-ignition.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, although preliminary estimates suggest a possible short circuit may be responsible. The extent of the material losses is still being evaluated, and authorities will conduct a thorough inspection of the damaged area to determine the full scope of the damage.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and both guests and staff were evacuated in a timely manner. The rapid response of emergency services prevented the fire from spreading to other areas of the complex.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the origin of the fire and clarify the circumstances surrounding this major blaze.
