A terrifying incident involving a loose cable on a street in Ciudad Caucel, Mérida, has left a motorcyclist shaken and highlighting the need for improved road safety.
According to Hada Pérez, a resident of Ciudad Caucel, she was riding her motorcycle down 114th Avenue x 43rd Street when disaster almost struck. Despite the darkness of the night and poor lighting on the avenue, Pérez failed to notice a cable hanging precariously over her head.
“It almost killed me,” Pérez exclaimed in a social media post, urging fellow residents to exercise caution on the treacherous stretch of road. She implored others to report the issue to the authorities, expressing concern that no one knows who is responsible for the hazardous situation.
This is not an isolated incident. Another resident has reported a similar experience with the same cable, sustaining injuries in the process. The alarming frequency of these incidents has led some residents to recommend that Pérez notify the relevant authorities and inform the responsible company – be it an electricity or internet service provider – to rectify the situation.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining road safety standards and ensuring that infrastructure is properly maintained, particularly in areas with inadequate lighting. As Pérez’s harrowing experience demonstrates, such oversights can have devastating consequences for motorists and pedestrians alike.
