White House Counterterrorism Director Sebastian Gorka stated that the United States is working “very closely” with Mexico in the fight against cartels and, without ruling out the eventual deployment of US troops, stressed that such an action would depend on the approval of the Mexican government.

During a forum organized by the website Político, journalist Dasha Burns asked Gorka if the designation of six Mexican cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations has a military component, that is, if US military action in Mexico is among the options.
