With the official start of hurricane season on May 15, the Los Cabos Hotel Association announced that it has activated its prevention protocols through its Safety Committee, in coordination with state and municipal authorities.
The Ministry of the Navy (Semar) forecasts the formation of 19 tropical cyclones in the Pacific Ocean during the 2025 season, some with the potential to impact Baja California Sur. According to the National Water Commission (Conagua), the state has a 13% chance of being directly hit by one of these phenomena, the highest in the country.
Lilzi Orci Fregoso, executive president of the Hotel Association, explained that the sector is already working on preventive measures focused on the safety of visitors and hotel staff.
“We will hold our Safety Committee meeting; this is the department within the hotels with which we discuss this issue during hurricane season. There, we will begin our contingency plan for hurricane season. We are inviting the authorities responsible for safety during this season to these meetings. Civil Protection will obviously accompany us to establish direct communication in case these natural phenomena approach our destination.”
According to the National Water Commission (Conagua), Baja California Sur is the state with the highest probability of being impacted by a tropical cyclone, at 13 percent. Given this scenario, authorities and business leaders have begun working together on Civil Protection strategies with the goal of preventing major impacts, such as those recently recorded in other tourist destinations in the country.
