What is the tragic love story that became a legend about?
The legend of the building that houses Casa Abuela is about Verónica, a young woman who lived there at the end of the 19th century and died tragically on her wedding day.
The woman was engaged to Ramón Leal del Campo, a relative of Don José del Campo Soberón y Larrea, the first Count of Súchil.
According to the story, three days before getting married, she visited the Eastern Pantheon for the Day of the Dead and there stumbled upon a skeleton. Upon discovering this, the woman kicked it, but also, perhaps as a game, invited her to her wedding.
On the wedding day, during the party taking place at the bride’s house, a strange man asked Veronica to dance: it was the dead man she had invited.
Before the eyes of the other guests, the man suddenly turned into a skeleton, and the bride fell dead.
They say that even now, from time to time, a woman dressed as a bride can be seen walking around this house; it is Veronica’s soul trying to continue her interrupted wedding.
