The Guanajuato State Attorney General’s Office obtained a 33-year, 10-month prison sentence against José Antonio “N,” who was found guilty of the murder of a foreign couple in October 2022 in San Miguel de Allende.
According to information provided by the Specialized Homicide Unit, the perpetrator posed as a real estate agent to gain the trust of the victims, who were also elderly.
Authorities revealed that once José Antonio “N” gained access to the couple’s personal information and their home address, he violently attacked them and tried to cover up the crime, according to the Guanajuato State Attorney General’s Office. After committing the murder, he tried to hide the bodies in different parts of San Miguel de Allende, as the victims had been mutilated.
Thus, the capture and subsequent sentencing of the accused was possible thanks to an exhaustive investigation and coordinated work with the San Miguel de Allende Security Secretariat. Authorities were able to gather solid evidence that directly linked him to the murder.
This case shocked the community, as the victims lived in San Miguel de Allende, a municipality renowned for its community made up of locals and people from other countries who live there.
With this ruling, the Guanajuato State Attorney General’s Office reaffirms its commitment to combating impunity and prosecuting justice in the state of Guanajuato.
Federal authorities acknowledge a decrease in intentional homicides in Guanajuato
Following a high-level meeting between the Secretary of National Defense, Ricardo Trevilla; the Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch; the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo; and state officials, it was announced that more than two thousand people have been arrested during the current administration and a sustained reduction of more than 40% in intentional homicides has been achieved.
According to authorities, this decrease in violence rates is the result of coordinated operations between the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA), the Ministry of the Navy (SEMAR), the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), and state corporations, which have intensified their presence and actions in the region.
