Durango was ranked among the three states with the highest levels of peace in the country, according to the Mexico 2025 Peace Index, prepared by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). This report, which annually analyzes the security and well-being situation in the 32 states, placed Durango only below Yucatán and Tlaxcala.

The report is based on five indicators: homicide rate, violent crimes, firearms crimes, crimes requiring pretrial detention, and perceptions of insecurity. In all of these, Durango recorded levels below the national average, particularly notable for its low homicide rate and lower perceptions of violence among citizens.

Furthermore, the state has shown sustained improvement in its overall rating compared to previous years. It is one of the eight states in the country that has made continuous progress in its peace levels over the last decade, maintaining a positive trend since 2015.

According to the report, this performance is the result of public policies focused on crime prevention, the professionalization of police forces, coordination between institutions, and citizen participation. For its part, the state government, led by Esteban Villegas Villarreal, asserts that it has implemented a comprehensive strategy that seeks to maintain and strengthen these levels.

Authorities report that this recognition positions Durango as one of the states with the greatest social stability, which can have positive implications for economic development, investment, and the quality of life of its residents.
