Citizen groups have called for a demonstration this Saturday, May 17, in San José del Cabo, in conjunction with the visit of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The protest is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Fonatur roundabout, one of the locations where the president is expected to lead public events. According to the call, protesters will seek to directly address the president with their complaints about the lack of access to federally-owned land, as well as the failure of local authorities to address allegedly illegal construction projects.

“We are going to welcome her warmly and, in the process, ask her opinion on the privatization of beaches in Baja California Sur,” said Vicky Güereña Mills, one of the movement’s promoters.

Specific cases have also been highlighted, such as the situation along La Reforma Creek, where unauthorized construction has been reported as part of businessman Ernesto Coppel Kelly’s commercial development, The Palmoral, as well as damage attributed to the Cabo Santos project, owned by the Salas businessmen.

In parallel, President Claudia Sheinbaum plans to lead official activities related to health, housing, and infrastructure. According to her agenda, announced by her during the morning press conference, she will participate in the groundbreaking of the IMSS Regional General Hospital in Los Cabos and in the review of the progress of the National Housing Program.

La protesta está programada a las 4 de la tarde en la glorieta Fonatur, uno de los puntos donde se espera que la presidenta encabece actos públicos.
