As part of Plan Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reached a voluntary agreement to increase national content, that is, to increase the sale of “Made in Mexico” products in self-service stores, department stores, pharmacies, retail stores, as well as on digital commerce platforms.

A total of 22 large companies committed to the Ministry of Economy to increase the average national content of the products they sell over the next three years.

The strategy, combined with “Plan Mexico,” will consist of producing more locally and creating more jobs.

“This agreement was very important; it is a voluntary agreement, but it will be followed up on, like many others,” said the head of the federal government during her “People’s Morning Press Conference” press conference.

Among these business groups are supermarket chains, which will increase their domestic content by 20% (from 50 to 70%), and department store chains, which will increase this indicator by 12% (from 30 to 42%).

Amazon, Walmart, and OXXO stand out, having already joined and supported the “Made in Mexico” program.

On February 24, Walmart de México joined the Made in Mexico initiative, bringing this distinctive graphic to the aisles and shelves of its nearly 3,200 stores and clubs across the country.

At the time, it stated that it wanted to be the first retail company to launch and support this campaign, thus demonstrating action and not just rhetoric. Almost three months later, Walmart reiterated its commitment to promoting the consumption of products made in the country, as well as supporting the economy of Mexican families.

In the case of Amazon, it was on May 7th that it decided to support the “Made in Mexico” program and promote the export of national SMEs.

Through its subsidiary in Mexico, the American e-commerce company supported the initiative promoted by the government headed by Claudia Sheinbaum to strengthen the national industry and position the country’s economy among the ten most important in the world.

“For us, focusing on products made in Mexico and exporting them to the world is an absolute priority, not only this year, but also for past and future years,” said Pedro Huerta, Amazon Mexico Country Manager.

Originally based in Monterrey, Nuevo León, the convenience store chain OXXO has always distinguished itself by promoting Made in Mexico, especially regionally, for example: Made in Yucatán or Made in Sonora.

This strategy has placed it among the 10 most valuable Mexican brands, according to the Kantar BrandZ 2025 ranking.
