A girl died of measles in the municipality of Cajeme, the Sonora state government reported, and also shared details of the cases reported in the state.
It is worth noting that state authorities detailed that all reported infections are imported from other states, meaning none originated in Sonora.
According to the Ministry of Public Health (SSP), the girl died of measles after presenting with severe malnutrition.
The agency also explained that the minor had not received the vaccine and her guardians did not take her to a health center.
How many measles cases are there in Sonora?
On the other hand, as of May 20, 30 measles cases have been confirmed in Sonora, all imported from other states.
Of these, 26 are concentrated in Cajeme, while Hermosillo has recorded two. and the municipalities of Nogales and Bácum, one each.
The infected people in Cajeme are agricultural workers originally from Chihuahua who arrived in the state with the active disease.

This situation forced authorities to activate epidemiological surveillance and medical care protocols.
To contain the outbreak, Territorial Basic Squads were deployed, tasked with implementing health cordons and targeted vaccination campaigns.

The Sonora Public Health Secretariat reiterated its call to mothers, fathers, and guardians to verify the vaccination schedule of children and adolescents.
The triple viral vaccine (MMR) is administered at 12 months, 18 months, and six years of age, with boosters for adolescents who have not completed the schedule.
Measles is a highly contagious disease that can cause serious complications, especially in children under five years of age.
