The Tulum municipal government has launched a comprehensive campaign to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits diseases such as Dengue, Zika, and Chikungunya. With the onset of the rainy season, officials are working tirelessly to prevent outbreaks and ensure healthy environments for residents.
Under the supervision of Mayor Diego Castañón, the Municipal Health Directorate has deployed various teams to target high-density areas with stagnant water, where mosquitoes breed most prolifically. The efforts include larval control, fumigation, and community awareness campaigns aimed at educating citizens about preventative measures.
Fumigation campaigns take place both morning and afternoon, while brigade members are conducting door-to-door visits to inform families on effective ways to prevent mosquito breeding sites in their homes. These visits also involve distributing informative brochures with practical recommendations for reinforcing these measures.
“The health of Tulum residents is our top priority,” said Mayor Diego Castañón. “We are committed to preventing outbreaks and fostering a culture of prevention throughout the municipality.”
Key initiatives include community cleanup campaigns, elimination of mosquito breeding sites, application of abate in water tanks, and education on keeping yards clean, covering containers, and disposing of objects that collect water.
As part of this public health strategy, municipal authorities urge residents to stay informed and actively collaborate with efforts to prevent the spread of disease-carrying mosquitoes. By working together, officials aim to reduce epidemiological risks and protect Tulum’s citizens from mosquito-borne illnesses.
