In a recent statement, US Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson expressed his gratitude towards the Mexican government for its growing cooperation in national security and shared security actions.

Johnson, who represents Donald Trump’s administration, highlighted Mexico’s increased efforts in security on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. He emphasized that he is in Mexico to continue working with President Claudia Sheinbaum on enhancing security for both nations.

The ambassador echoed the sentiments of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who recently praised Mexico for its rising cooperation in national and shared security. In a separate statement, Rubio announced his intention to travel to Mexico “in the coming weeks” to finalize areas of cooperation.

Rubio acknowledged that Mexico has increased its security collaboration with the United States, noting that it has been “very productive.” He also stated that he intends to visit Mexico soon, accompanied by other members of the Cabinet, to solidify these agreements.

The Secretary of State acknowledged to US lawmakers that cartels in Mexico are equipped with weapons imported from the United States and trafficked. In response, Rubio expressed his administration’s desire to help stem this flow of arms and provide assistance to combat the cartels, several of which have been declared global “terrorist” organizations by Washington.

Rubio emphasized that the US government wants to equip Mexican authorities with information and resources to tackle these cartels effectively. This development marks a significant step in security cooperation between the two nations under the Trump administration.
