The designation of the Port of Altamira as one of the Economic Development Hubs for Well-being (PODECOBI) by President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration confirms Tamaulipas’ strategic role in the country’s economic and productive development, said Economy Secretary Ninfa Cantú Deándar.
Referring to the announcement made by Secretary Marcelo Ebrard during the “Mañanera del Pueblo” (People’s Morning Conference), Cantú Deándar emphasized that this decision “attests to the enormous potential of the Port of Altamira, an emblem of Tamaulipas’ industrial strength and a key logistics hub for national economic growth.”
Tamaulipas works in coordination with the federal government.
The PODECOBIs are part of Plan Mexico and are defined as specially designed territorial polygons with strategic infrastructure, tax benefits, and administrative facilities, with the aim of encouraging investment, boosting business activity, and strengthening productive linkages in regions with high potential.
Cantú Deándar emphasized that the administration of Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya is already working in close coordination with the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum, through the federal Ministry of Economy and municipal governments, to provide all the conditions that guarantee the successful development of this hub and the attraction of investments that generate quality jobs and increase regional competitiveness.
“We are committed to an inclusive development strategy that prioritizes infrastructure, the strengthening of value chains, and the integration of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as key players in Mexico’s new industrial development model,” he emphasized.
Altamira, a key hub for investment and innovation
He also noted that the state Ministry of Economy is making progress in defining specific incentives to promote investments in machinery and equipment, foster technical training programs under the dual training model, and promote innovation as a cross-cutting axis of business growth.
The Altamira Economic Development Hub represents a historic opportunity to consolidate Tamaulipas as one of the best destinations for investment, industrial development, and business creation in Mexico.
With a geostrategic location, world-class port infrastructure, and a dynamic business ecosystem, Altamira is poised to be a pillar in the new phase of national economic development.
“Governor Américo Villarreal’s priority is clear: to make Tamaulipas a leading state in productive development, innovation, and well-being for all,” concluded the head of the state agency.
