The new route will begin operations on July 16, 2025, and will operate at the recently expanded Riviera Nayarit International Airport.
Volaris, the Mexican ultra-low-cost airline operating in Mexico, the United States, and Central and South America, announced the new route connecting Los Angeles, California, with Tepic, the capital of Nayarit. It will begin operations on July 16 of this year with three weekly flights: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
At a press conference at the International Airport in this Californian city, attended by Gustavo Martínez Cianca, Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, California; Juan Enrique Suárez, Secretary of Tourism for Nayarit; and Jorge Roberto García Rojas, Director of Distribution and Market Development for Volaris, the Mexican airline reiterated its commitment to continue expanding its portfolio of domestic and international destinations and remaining the number one Mexican airline in terms of total passengers carried in all its markets.
Los Angeles and its surrounding areas are of great importance to Nayarit’s tourism campaign, as it has long been seen as a natural destination for Angelenos.
Tepic is an attractive city steeped in history and richness, making it a perfect destination, combining everything needed for family or business travel. Now, with this new route to Los Angeles, one of our clients’ favorite destinations traveling to the United States, new possibilities open up for all those looking to travel between the two regions, whether for business, tourism, or to visit family and friends, they emphasized.
The expansion of the Riviera Nayarit International Airport (TPQ) represents a crucial advance in the development of the state’s tourism infrastructure. It is projected to become a four-million-passenger airport, with capacity for up to 20 million passengers annually.
With improved capabilities to accommodate international flights, the airport is poised to become a key gateway for travelers looking to explore the diversity of this rich destination.
“I deeply appreciate Volaris, which has invested in our destination, the airport authorities, tourism entrepreneurs, and all those who have worked to make this route a reality. This is another step in consolidating Nayarit as a world-class destination,” said Juan Enrique Suárez, Secretary of Tourism of Nayarit.
Volaris began operations in Tepic in 2012 and has since transported more than 1.3 million customers via the route that connects this city with Tijuana, one of our largest destinations, with a 73% market share.
“The city of Tepic has become a key destination for Volaris due to its cultural richness and economic dynamism. This strengthening of our operations in Tepic demonstrates that we are on the right path, crossing borders to encourage social, cultural, and economic exchange between both nations,” said Jorge Roberto García Rojas, Director of Distribution and Market Development at Volaris.
In the case of Los Angeles, since Volaris began operations in this Californian city in 2009, it has transported more than 11.4 million customers across 13 routes.
