The Jalisco Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) announced that starting this Monday, May 26, 2025, maintenance work will begin on a key section of the Guadalajara-Chapala Highway, with the goal of improving the conditions of this heavily trafficked roadway.

The work will be carried out from Chapala toward the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (AMG), specifically from kilometer 25+000 to kilometer 16+000, covering a nine-kilometer stretch between the El Salto Interchange and the Santa Rosa interchange.

Scheduled Work and Schedule

The work will be carried out Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., for an estimated period of two weeks. The work includes regrading the pavement and applying microaggregate to the lanes and shoulders of section B of the highway.

During this time, only one lane will remain open to traffic, which could cause delays for motorists.

Call to the Public

The SICT urges those traveling on this highway to plan their trips in advance, use alternate routes whenever possible, and obey roadwork signs and speed limits to avoid accidents and expedite traffic flow.

The agency also expressed its gratitude for the public’s understanding of the temporary inconvenience, emphasizing that these works are necessary to ensure a safe and well-maintained road for all users.

Relationship with Line 5 of the Urban Electric Train

It should be noted that these works on the Guadalajara-Chapala highway are also related to the future construction of Line 5 of the Urban Electric Train, which will connect the Guadalajara International Airport with the Akron Stadium.

The rehabilitation of the highway and the improvement of its infrastructure are preliminary steps for the implementation of this mass transit line, which is projected to have a total investment of 13.5 billion pesos and a length of 18.5 kilometers.

These investments reflect a comprehensive effort to improve mobility, safety, and connectivity in the region, benefiting both residents and visitors, especially ahead of international events such as the 2026 World Cup.
