The government of Quintana Roo has taken decisive action to combat fraudulent property sales in the state, intervening in 70 irregular real estate developments that do not have permits.
According to José Alonso Ovando, head of the Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development (Sedetus), these interventions are designed to stop illegal property sales and protect consumers from scams. The agency has been working tirelessly to identify and address these issues throughout the state.
While some cases result in closures or criminal complaints, others involve developers being invited to regularize their construction, ensuring that homes sold have basic services and offer legal certainty to buyers.
Sedetus is also taking proactive steps to alert the general public about the risks of purchasing properties in these developments. Through social media circulars, they warn consumers that buying in these areas would contribute to crimes against urban development and put their assets at risk.
However, Sedetus offers guidance and advice to help consumers invest with confidence and acquire secure assets. They are committed to ensuring that property buyers have peace of mind when making purchasing decisions.
The intervened developments include a range of residential projects, such as Jade Residential, Los Ángeles Neighborhood, La Primavera, Isla Continental, Ixchel Neighborhood, Parcela 199, Xibalba Residential, and many others in Isla Mujeres. These projects often lack the necessary state or municipal certificates, permits, and authorizations required by law.
Sedetus is working to address these issues and protect consumers from scams. Their efforts aim to maintain trust in the real estate market and ensure that property sales are conducted fairly and transparently throughout Quintana Roo.
