iPhones will have FREE satellite signal throughout Mexico… this is how it works

Have you lost signal in an emergency? Well, Apple announced that people with an iPhone 14 or later in Mexico will be able to access the satellite signal and send text messages, as well as share their location. How does it work? We’ll tell you.

The first thing you should know is that this will apply to any remote location, such as a mountainous area, on the road, or in any remote area where there is no signal at all.

“In situations where there is no Wi-Fi or cellular connection, Satellite Messaging helps people stay in touch with friends and family, and the Find My app via satellite lets them share their location,” Apple said in a statement.

iPhone 14 or later phones that want to use it must have iOS 18.4 or a later update installed. This applies to those in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

How do I activate the satellite function on the iPhone?

To activate the new iPhone satellite feature, you must be in an area with no Wi-Fi signal and no Wi-Fi connection. You can do so using either of the following two options:

Control Center: From the screen, swipe down to open the Control Center; then tap the Cellular Data button, then tap Satellite, and the satellite feature will appear.

Settings: Open this app, tap Satellite, and then tap the satellite feature.
Although Apple’s own phone can help you demonstrate this, even if you have a connection.

The company recommends that to activate the satellite feature on your iPhone, you must have the phone in your hand, not put it away, and follow the movement instructions so you don’t block the signal. This way, it will connect to the nearest satellite.

“Satellite connectivity may not work in locations above 62° latitude, such as northern Alaska,” Apple states.

How long will the iPhone satellite feature be free?

The satellite service will be free for two years, according to Adrián Santos, Apple’s content creator, on Azucena Uresti’s show.

Santos added that there have already been reports of people in the United States being trapped in a storm or on the highway.
