Guadalajara: What the Mexican Wine Festival will be like

2

Mexico has been producing wine for almost five centuries. Since the arrival of the Spanish, a winemaking culture has developed, especially in recent years, and can now be enjoyed in wineries across 17 states, including Jalisco.

In a few days, Guadalajara will host the eleventh edition of the Mexican Wine Festival, an event to discover new and established projects, taste their products, eat delicious food, learn in discussions with experts, and much more.

What will be on offer at the Guadalajara Mexican Wine Festival?

The main attraction of the Mexican Wine Festival is the participation of more than 60 national wineries in this event to showcase their history, projects, and, of course, their wines.

Each one will offer guided tastings and sales of their products.

Wineries such as Monte Xanic, Casa Madero, Bodegas Guanamé, Altos Norte, La Resistance, Vinaltura, Alma Alquimista, Cetto, Dovinto, Sala Vivé, Vinos América, and many more will be present.

What would this experience be without food? Fifteen restaurants and gastronomic projects will be present, including Don Carbón (grilled cuisine), Finca Las Luciérnagas (cheeses and farm products), Cerdos Salvajes (hamburgers and American cuisine), La Vacanora (Sonoran cuisine), and Mantequería (charcuterie).

Musically, there will be concerts and DJs, such as DJ Cheto and Los Rabiosos del Norte.

For those interested in learning more about wine, the Mexican Wine Festival will feature seven discussions: topics ranging from the history of wine in Mexico, its production in Jalisco, to wine storage in cellars.

As additional activities and at an extra cost, there will be four other gastronomic experiences guided by chefs and experts:

“Flavors of Jalisco You Didn’t Know Existed, and the Wines to Go With Them”: Maru Toledo, Jalisco gastronomy researcher and chef of the Cutzalan restaurant, will present three almost unknown recipes, paired with a selection of Jalisco wines presented by sommelier Teresa Rodríguez.
“The Taco, Another Best Friend of Wine”: Chef Jonathan Dávalos, of the Quelite restaurant, will offer a tasting of three tacos, paired with canned wines selected by sommelier Sam Cepeda.
“Anything Goes When It Comes to Experimenting, Eating, and Drinking”: Luis Aburto, of the Tierra de Peña vineyard, and food journalists Comidistasmx, will offer a selection of three dishes paired with agroecological wines.
‘The Charms of Cacao and Mexican Wine’: Luciana Helguera, from the artisanal chocolate shop La Broma de Teo, will lead a chocolate tasting, accompanied by a selection of wines selected by sommelier Teresa Rodríguez.

Where will the Guadalajara Mexican Wine Festival be held?

The Mexican Wine Festival will be held in Ávila Camacho Park, across from the Plaza Patria shopping center and the Guadalajara Country Club.

This park is also home to the seasonal themed events Calaverandia (Day of the Dead) and Navidalia (Christmas).
Please note that from downtown Guadalajara, it is a 15-minute drive.
