As a result of intelligence and investigative work in the state of Tabasco, members of the Secretariats of National Defense (DEFENSA), Navy (SEMAR), Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), and the Physical Security of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), the Police, Civil Protection, and Firefighters of said entity, after executing a search warrant on May 29, 2025, recovered more than 3 million liters of illegal hydrocarbons, or “huachicol,” on a property on the Gulf Coast Highway, Cárdenas-Villahermosa, in the Plátano y Cacao ranch, Second Section, in the municipality of Centro.
“As part of the actions to combat fuel theft, the Security Cabinet @Defensamx1, @SEMAR_mx, @FGRMexico, @GN_MEXICO_, @SSPCMexico, in coordination with @Pemex Logística, @SSPCTabasco, and #CivilProtection authorities, seized more than 3 million liters of fuel, 18 vehicles, 3 pieces of machinery, and 3,904 containers in Tabasco,” reported Omar Hamid García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), on his social media account X.
“Following up on lines of investigation, security agents located a property on the Gulf Coast Highway, Cárdenas-Villahermosa, in the Plátano y Cacao hamlet, Second Section, in the municipality of Centro, which was being used to illicitly store hydrocarbons and was putting the population at risk,” the Federal Security Cabinet said in a joint statement.
“Therefore, fixed and mobile surveillance was implemented, in addition to the use of technological equipment to gather sufficient evidence, which was delivered to a Control Judge, who issued the search warrant. Thus, a coordinated operation was carried out to execute the search warrant, seizing 18 vehicles, three pieces of machinery, and 3,904 containers with metal structures containing 3,123,200 liters of a petroleum-derived liquid,” the Federal Government added.
“The property was sealed and under police guard, while the seized items were handed over to the corresponding Public Prosecutor’s Office agent, who will continue to pursue the case. With these actions, the institutions of the Security Cabinet reaffirm their commitment to working in coordination with local authorities to combat crimes that harm society,” the Mexican Government concluded.
