Members of Conibio Global A.C. issued an alert because on May 27, SpaceX launched its ninth Starship rocket from Boca Chica, Texas, generating millions of debris particles as well as 12 4,500-pound tanks, which are part of the spacecraft’s propellant.

Jesus Elias Ibarra Rodríguez, head of Conibio, announced that the rocket consists of a booster and an unmanned vehicle. Upon reaching the desired altitude, the vehicle disconnected from the propellant, which weighs 200 tons.

“It fell into the Gulf of Mexico, exploding and generating millions of debris particles that are currently reaching Playa Bagdad in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Therefore, our team has been documenting the sightings of debris generated by the SpaceX rocket.”

“Evidently, millions of plastic fragments are reaching the coast. This puts the entire marine ecosystem at high risk, generates a negative impact on fishing families, and represents a danger to vessels that could collide with the tanks scattered at sea.”

He sadly stated that the eight years of efforts to save the Kemp’s ridley, an endangered species, are at maximum risk.

“In a few days, the hatchlings will begin to hatch, and we will have to release them on beaches contaminated with trash that they can ingest, mistaking it for food.”

Ibarra appealed to the “Mariana Boy” organization and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency to bring this catastrophic event to the attention of international affairs and hold SpaceX accountable for the damage it is causing.

The head of Conobio showed the 12 4,500-pound tanks that are part of Starship’s propulsion system and which they believe are part of the ship’s firefighting system.

“As an important note, the trash found has SpaceX labels, as do the tanks. I ask everyone to share this information and report any objects they may find on the beach.”
