The Maya Train has launched an innovative transportation system to connect passengers from train stations to urban centers, magical towns, and popular tourist destinations in the region.
According to a statement released by the company on its social media channels, this intermodal system offers a more economical and structured alternative to using taxis. The service aims to provide a seamless travel experience for passengers, allowing them to explore various attractions without the hassle of navigating unfamiliar areas.
The intermodal transportation network consists of buses and vans that operate from train stations to city centers, facilitating access to major tourist hotspots such as Cancun, Tulum Pueblo, and Playa del Carmen. The service also extends to smaller towns like Izamal in Yucatan, where passengers can easily reach the heart of the magical town.
Fares vary depending on the destination, with prices ranging from 25 pesos for a trip to Bacalar to 55 pesos each for travel to Cancun, Tulum Pueblo, and Playa del Carmen. The service operates on an hourly schedule, making it easier for travelers to plan their trips.
The Maya Train has stated that this transportation model not only reduces costs for users but also promotes more sustainable and inclusive tourism by encouraging exploration of lesser-visited communities.
In the future, the project will involve the construction of intermodal terminals at strategic points like Palenque and Chetumal, which will integrate different modes of transportation to further enhance regional connectivity. Additionally, the Maya Train is advancing its cargo transportation plan, using the same railway lines to develop specialized terminals that will facilitate efficient exchange of goods between various modes of transportation.
The development of this intermodal transportation system is expected to have a positive impact on logistics and trade in the southeast region, making it easier for people to access various destinations and promote economic growth.
