In Puebla, 61% of municipalities face risks due to the rainy season.

For the 2025 rainy season, 61 percent of the municipalities in the state of Puebla face risks of various meteorological disasters.

Due to the rainy season, 133 municipalities in Puebla face one or more risks such as hailstorms, landslides, and mudslides.

Of these municipalities, six stand out as potentially experiencing the four aforementioned problems: Xicotepec, Amixtlán, Zacatlán, Tetela de Ocampo, Zautla, and Tlatlauquitepec.

The municipality of Xicotepec has 80,591 inhabitants; Amixtlán, 4,812; Zacatlán, 87,361, and Tetela de Ocampo, 27,216.

While Zautla has 20,717 residents, and Tlatlauquitepec, 55,576, according to the Data México website.

The Special Civil Protection Program also detailed that there are 22 municipalities at three risk levels due to rain. Puebla’s capital stands out among this group, where hail, landslides, and flooding could endanger the population.

Puebla City has 1,692,181 inhabitants and is the state’s largest district.

Recently, the municipal government reported that it identified 45 neighborhoods at risk of flooding during the 2025 rainy season. Of these, only 17 will be addressed, as they are the most urgent, and are:

More than 100 municipalities in Puebla are at risk of flooding in 2025

The Special Civil Protection Program also indicated that Puebla has 104 municipalities at risk of flooding due to the 2025 rainy season. Some of the municipalities that could face this problem are the following:

Acajete
Huauchinango
Huehuetla
Izúcar de Matamoros
Zacapoaxtla
Tehuacán
Tepeaca

At the same time, the state government specified that there are 67 municipalities at risk of hailstorms, including several in the state’s metropolitan area. These include:

Amozoc
Huejotzingo
Libres
Coronango
Atlixco

While there are 57 municipalities susceptible to displacement due to rain in 2025, and 21 municipalities at risk of landslides.

The effects of the heavy rains are already being felt in the state of Puebla. On June 5, 2025, the state Ministry of the Interior reported that 26 municipalities were affected by the first rainfall of June.

The head of the department, Samuel Aguilar Pala, reported that rocks fell on the Acuaco-Huehuetla highway. In the Tepexi de Rodríguez area, branches and trees fell in the San Sebastián neighborhood, the San Vicente neighborhood, and Plaza Centro.
