Through social media, users reported power outages in various areas of Mazatlán, Sinaloa. Some point out that the heaviest rains in the state have not yet begun, and the power outages have already begun.

Especially on Facebook, internet users have shared their annoyance at the power outages in various parts of Mazatlán, as the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has not even issued a statement to explain the anomaly or the cause of the outages.

Some of the affected neighborhoods are mainly: Mañanitas, Pradera, Dorada, Jaramillo, Jardines del Valle, Real, Villas del Rey, Valle Bonito, Infonavit Jabalíes, Fraccionamiento Los Olivos, and Mar de Cortés. Power has been affected more than twice a day, with the outages lasting just over two hours and occurring during the evenings and early mornings.

Among the main complaints expressed by affected citizens are the interruptions to the water supply, since the lack of electricity also disrupts the service.

On the other hand, it also impacts families’ wallets, as appliances can be damaged after the blackouts. Furthermore, refrigerated food, vegetables, and other items tend to spoil, leaving them with no choice but to throw them away, a situation that has upset many.

What the authorities and the CFE have said about the blackouts in Mazatlán
Local media have reported that so far, the CFE has not officially informed the public of the reason for the blackouts, which is causing discontent among the population as they cannot be prevented, which would prevent material and food losses.

Mazatlán Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez stated that communication had already been established with the Commission, and they would follow up on the situation in each area that has filed complaints. She assured that both urban and rural areas would be addressed, with the goal of avoiding outages during the approaching rainy season.

Meanwhile, City Hall Secretary Moisés Ríos Pérez reported what appears to be the main reason for the outages, citing a communication failure between the municipality and the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission).

According to reports on social media and local media, Ríos Pérez reported that this is maintenance work being carried out in various neighborhoods to ensure electricity service is not affected by heavy rains.

The secretary commented that they will seek further information from the CFE about the work plan they are developing, so that citizens can be alerted to the outages and be informed before they occur.
