A violent confrontation between alleged criminal groups left a tragic toll in San Miguel de Allende, with three adults killed and two minors injured by firearms. The fatalities are two men and a woman, who, according to local authorities, were the parents of the injured children, leaving the children orphaned.
The attack was confirmed by the San Miguel de Allende Citizen Security Secretariat, which stated that the incident occurred during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 19. According to the official report, the 911 emergency number reported multiple gunshots on Santa Clara Street in the Lomas de San José neighborhood.
“Municipal Police officers and Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene and located three deceased individuals (two men and a woman) inside a home, as well as two minors with gunshot wounds. The minors were immediately taken to a hospital; one of them is under observation and the other is out of danger,” stated the statement issued by the Secretariat.
Witnesses reported that two trucks with armed men arrived at the home and fired multiple shots, leaving spent shell casings at the scene and damaging the facade and interior of the building. According to authorities, it was a direct attack.
The municipal government also reported that, according to its records, one of the deceased individuals was identified as Jesús Humberto “N,” an alleged member of a gang dedicated to stealing motorcycles in the municipality. He had a history of public health crimes and had recently been brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the theft of a motorcycle on June 15.
Although the Guanajuato State Attorney General’s Office will be in charge of continuing the investigation, the municipal government stated that the incidents were the result of a confrontation between rival gangs. The Attorney General’s Office has already gathered evidence at the crime scene and is working to identify and arrest those responsible.
