Mexico Evacuates Citizens from Iran Amid Escalating Tension with Israel

The Mexican government has successfully evacuated 18 Mexican citizens and their families from Iran, bringing them to safety in Azerbaijan. The evacuation operation was coordinated by the Mexican consular team in the region and came as a precautionary measure following the military escalation between Israel and Iran.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all individuals involved were transferred voluntarily and are currently under diplomatic protection in Azerbaijan. The arrangements for their safe passage were made by staff at the Mexican Embassy in Iran, working closely with the diplomatic representation in Azerbaijan.

The evacuation protocol was activated after Israeli forces launched surprise airstrikes against strategic targets of Iran’s military program, sparking intense clashes that have left over 200 dead in Iran and at least 24 in Israel. Although the evacuation was preventive, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Mexican diplomatic personnel remain in Iran to monitor events and provide additional assistance as needed.

The Mexican Embassy in Israel is also maintaining constant communication with Mexican residents or those passing through the country, offering information on alternative exit routes due to commercial flights remaining suspended for security reasons. The embassy has established contact lines for emergency situations:

Mexican citizens in need of consular protection can reach out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at [email protected] and +972 54 316 6717.

The Mexican government continues to offer consular protection to its nationals in the Middle East, prioritizing their safety and well-being during this volatile period.
