Old homes in San Cristóbal pose a risk during the rains.

Dozens of residents of San Cristóbal de Las Casas reported that several old adobe homes with tiled roofs pose a serious danger to the population, especially given the heavy rains recorded in the afternoons. Dozens of people travel through the area daily, so they urge authorities to take action before disaster strikes, as the walls could collapse.

Residents of various neighborhoods and settlements in the northeastern part of the city have requested the intervention of Civil Protection, as well as authorities from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), to conduct inspections and take preventive measures to avoid possible collapses or accidents.

They urged Civil Protection personnel to post signs indicating a danger zone. They also asked residents who regularly sit on sidewalks not to remain there for long periods of time, as the walls could collapse. There is no emergency services presence this Thursday, but it is necessary to at least place yellow tape around homes.

Finally, residents of the neighborhoods asked the relevant authorities to prioritize safety and address these reports promptly, given the latent risk posed by the rainy season, as these buildings can collapse, putting pedestrians and motorists at great risk.
